GROW Beyond the Budget - Ep. 1 The G.R.O.W Framework
Let’s G.R.O.W. Your Money!
The G.R.O.W. framework is what I use with my clients to help them transform their finances. This is how this podcast got its name, and you’ll want to understand this process if you’re going to use this podcast as a resource to make a financial shift and move toward financial freedom.
In this week’s episode, I walk you through each framework phase to show you how to get started on your financial transformation, so be sure to check it out but here is the short version.
“G” stands for goal-setting…
…but not short-sighted goals like boosting credit, paying off debt, or budgeting better. I’m talking about big-picture goals like becoming the first millionaire in your family, becoming work optional, starting a non-profit organization, and creating a trust fund for future generations. In this phase, you must think deeply about what you want out of LIFE so we can align all future financial decisions to that vision.
“R” stands for recognition…
…which is all about bringing awareness to your current money mindset, the beliefs you have about money, and bringing up any negative stories, experiences, or assumptions about money that limit you to playing small. This phase is also where you start looking at your numbers. Start collecting the data you need to know your starting point, not from judgment, shame, guilt, regret, or embarrassment but from a place of curiosity, intrigue, and solutions.
“O” stands for outline…
…where you begin to develop the plan to bridge the gap from where you are now to where you want to be. This is such a critical step because it can quickly become overwhelming or discouraging after you’ve identified your big vision and goals and see where you are now. I want you to stay committed to the process of G.R.O.Wing your money by determining exactly HOW you start eating your elephant (the big goal), which is taking one bite at a time. This phase is where you specify which immediate and impactful actions will help you get started in the direction of your vision.
“W” stands for work…
where you put your plan in motion and create momentum by overcoming obstacles of early implementation. The phase is about finding your way forward regardless of the adjustments and challenges you will inevitably face when changing your life. It’s also about celebrating your milestones and progress as you start to make traction towards your goals.
